RAJOURI: As
a part of the Rajouri Day celebration, the Ace of Spades division, Civil
Administration Officials and the people jointly celebrated Rajouri Day at the
Gujjar Chowk War Memorial near ALG here.
The
ceremony included wreath laying in honour of the brave martyrs, prayers by all
religious heads, patriotic songs and peace march by school children. Brig JK Tiwari,
SC, Dy GOC, Ace of Spades Division interacted with citizens of the town.
It
was on April 12, 1948, troops of 1 KUMAON Regiment alongwith tanks of CIH and
Artillery Battery advanced from Chingus for liberation of Rajouri, which was
under seize of intruders. On 13 April 1948, Rajouri was liberated from the
intruders who had infiltrated from across. Rajouri Day is celebrated every year
to pay homage to brave martyrs who laid down their lives for liberation of
Rajouri.
Dy
GOC Brig JK Tiwari, SC, paid homage to martyrs during wreath laying ceremony
held at Gujjar Chowk in presence of large gathering of Army, Civil
Administration, school children and locals. During his address, he highlighted
the importance of the day and exhorted all for a similar display of patriotism
towards the nation. He stressed on the Army’s commitment towards creating long
lasting peace in the region.
This
is for the first time in the history of Rajouri that the Rajouri Day was
celebrated in sequential manner for 10 days which included visit to ‘Hall of Fame’
by children of many schools of Rajouri, Essay & Painting competition for the
children, Tribute to Martyrs, Peace March and Photo exhibition. This year Rajouri
Day celebration, has definitely increased the bonhomie between civil and Army in
strengthening the peace.
