SHOPIAN: As
a part of SADHBHAVANA project of Indian Army for integrating the people
especially of the remote and underdeveloped areas of J&K into the
nation’s mainstream, an educational/motivational tour for a group of 38
children in the age group 12-17 years accompanied by three teachers and
Army staff from Kulgam and Shopian districts of South Kashmir was
conducted by 62 Rashtriya Rifles (DOGRA) under the aegis of 2 Sector
Rashtriya Rifles of Victor Force.
The
exuberant and enterprising group of 38 school children had left on 10
days tour of Dehradun - Chandigarh and Jammu on 22 Jan 12. The children
had joy writ large on their faces as they had got a glimpse of some of
the most incredible places in the country which gave them an insight in
to the all round progress of our nation and our cultural diversity and
rich heritage.
Many
participants got a chance to cross the famous ‘Jawahar Tunnel’ for the
first time in
their life and got the opportunity to travel by bus across India. In
city of Dehradun, they visited IMA Dehradun, FRI, Shahastradhara, Deer
Park, Sahay IAS Academy, Company Bagh, Kempty Fall, Mall Road Market,
Rajpur Road Market and also meet her excellency Mrs Margaret Alva,
Governor of Uttarakhand,. They also got the opportunity to interact
with the cadets of IMA Dehradun.
In
the well planned city of India (Chandigarh), the children visited Air
Force Stn, interacted with Lt Gen SR Ghosh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, ADC,
GOC-in-C, Western Comd and saw Rock Garden, Rose Garden, Sukna Lake,
Pinjore Gargen, Rajiv Gandhi IT, Dinosaurs Park, 17 Sector market and
malls.
The
tour was flagged in by Cdr 2 Sect. The children recounted their
experiences during the ceremony and also gave a short entertaining
cultural programme. They were effusive in their praise of 62 Rashtriya
Rifles (DOGRA) and the supporting staff from the unit which accompanied
the entourage for making the tour a very comfortable one.
