ARMY ORGANISES VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

BANDIPORA: 13 Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) today organised an Intra District Volleyball Tournament at Army Goodwill School, Hajan for the villages of Bandipora and Ganderbal. Youths from around 18 villages participated in the overall tournament. 

The tournament was conducted for five days commencing from 27 Jan 2012 onwards. The final match was played on 31 Jan 2012 between village Hajan and village Safapura. In a very electrifying and thrilling match, players of village Safapura befittingly won the tournament. “It was a nail biting match till the last” said one of the spectator while another said “throughout it was an edge of the seat experience”. 

The tournament was aimed at developing a competitive spirit amongst the local youths and also to provide them a platform to showcase their talent. The matches were witnessed with keen interest by one and all and generated bonhomie amongst the villagers and troops stationed nearby. The event drew tremendous participation and enthusiasm from the locals. 

Commanding Officer of 13 Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) Colonel Manish Chaturvedi, SM gave away the prizes to the winner and runners up of the tournament. All the participating players were also given certificates and consolation prizes. Commanding Officer during the function while addressing the media stated that as part of Phase one, intra District Tournament was conducted, in Phase two inter district tournament will be conducted by 13 Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) in which teams from Anantnag, Badgam, Shupian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Bandipora and Ganderbal will be participating. 

Apart from senior Army officials ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Khajur Mohd Dar,Sarpanch,Hazi Noor Mohd Wani and Abdul Rashid Kobli  and other prominent personalities of the participating villages attended the tournament. Mohd Farooq, one of the player of winning team remarked “13 Rashtriya Rifles (KUMAON) is doing a good service for the area by conducting such sports, with this exposure we too now can dream of participating in the district level matches”.
