SRINAGAR: Heavy
snowfall in the valley adversely affected the daily routine of natives.
Apart from extremely harsh climatic conditions with sustained subzero
temp heavy snow fall added to the misery and people were not coming out
of their houses.
For positive engagement of the civil population, 14
Rashtriya Rifles decided to draw the population out of their houses by
organising snowman / snowculpture competition for them. The Jury
comprised of Sarpanch, Punch and village elders along with officers of
the Army Camp. The competition received warm response from the villagers
as they came out in large numbers.
Prizes were distributed by the team
of Jury,
which were provided to them by 14 Rashtriya Rifles. The occasion also
provided opportunity for interaction with such a large group &
provide them with information about prevention of cold injuries.
Mobile
medical team went to villages amidst snowfall & educated the people
about preventive measures to be undertaken to avoid life threatening
emergencies like status asthmatics and limb threatening disease like
Chill blane, trench foot and frostbite. The people enjoyed making snow
sculpture and applauded Army’s humanitarian efforts.
