NAOSHERA: More
than 700 youth jubilantly participated in three categories of Naoshera Marathan
which was organised by the Army to celebrate the Vijay Diwas today.
Rakhee
Kumar of Naunial village won the 14 Km race, Raj Kumar of Daryala won in 10
Km category and Karamjit Singh emerged
winner in 5 Km race (under 16 yrs) category.
To
celebrate the Indian Victory over Pakistan and independence of Bangladesh in
1971 War, 16 Dec is celebrated as Vijay Diwas. The valiant Army and Civil
comrades fought together to free the oppressed people of Bangladesh from the clutches
of Pakistan.
The celebration also
commemorates the supreme sacrifice made by our brave soldiers and people of
Bangladesh during the operations.
To
pay homage to the martyrs and to represent the everlasting spirit of
Nationalism a Naoshera Marathon was organised on Vijay Diwas. This event had remarkable participation
wherein prominent citizens alongwith local populace, ladies, children and the
army officers, personnel and their families took part.
The event was flagged
off from the Kalsiyan for the participants who completed the 14 km route. Second category of participants included the
serving army officers, personnels and volunteer citizens. Flagging off for this event was organised at
Chowki Handan and the participants completed a route of 10 km. The event was
flagged off by Commander Naoshera Brigade and eminent personalities of Naoshera
including the SDM Dr Shahid Chaudhary and the ASP Dr Kaushal Sharma
participated. Another category of participants included ladies, children,
senior citizens and senior officers of army who ran over 5 Km. The finishing point for the event was a
Naoshera Convoy ground.
Prizes
were distributed to the winners by the Commander Naoshera Brigade. In the 14 Km category Rakhee Kumar of
Naunial, Anil Syal of Naunial and Pawan Kumar of Kalsi secured first three
positions. In 10 Km category winners
were Raj Kumar of Daryala, Gurjeet Singh of Naoshera and Sunil Kumar of
Bajnova. In under 16 yrs category which
ran for 5 Km winners were Karmjit Singh & Saurav Kumar of Naoshera High
School and Satnam Singh of Higher Secondary School Seri
The
unabated enthusiasm of participants showcased the spirit of Nationalism paying
glowing tributes to those valiant martyrs who left a glorious trail of victory
with their exemplary display of unwavering devotion to duty towards their
motherland.
The function was attended by
both the Army and civil dignitaries. All participants were presented a
colourful T shirt as a souvenir to make the event memorable. The participation in various categories from
all spheres of society was the reflection of national integration and unbeaten
spirit of INDIA.
