NAGROTA: General VK Singh,
PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Army Staff visited the Headquarters of White
Knight Corps today. On arrival at Nagrota, General Singh was received by
Lieutenant General KT Parnaik, UVSM, YSM, GOC-in-C Northern Command and
Lieutenant General AS Nandal, AVSM, SM, GOC White Knight Corps.
The COAS was briefed on the prevailing
security situation South of Pir Panjal Ranges in J&K. The Chief expressed
his satisfaction over the reduction in terrorist infiltration. Explaining the present environment, the
General said that troops should not become complacent as we are yet to see the
end of terrorism in J&K. He said that there was a need to remain vigilant
and prepared at all times.
In a special sainik
sammelan held on the occasion, the Chief addressed the officers and men of the White
Knight Corps and outlined the priority areas of the Indian Army. The General also
spoke about the steps being taken towards transformation of the Army to make it
operationally and logistically more efficient.
The Chief informed the men about
various measures initiated for their welfare in the recent times. He said that long
overdue improvements have been made in the ration and clothing of jawans. The process
for removal of anomalies in the 6th pay commission has also been initiated.
The General underlined the need for all
ranks of the Army to always maintain high moral values and to live by the principles
which are traditionally identified with the Army. Later, the Chief shared a cup
of tea with jawans. The Army Chief returned to New Delhi in the
afternoon.
