JAMMU PREMIER LEAGUE (TAWI CUP 2012)

KISHTWAR: The ongoing Jammu Premier League (Tawi Cup -2012) Cricket Tournament organized by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Chogan ground, Kishtwar with effect from 07 Mar 2012 as part of Operation Sadbhavana activity concluded with the final match being played between Youth Sarkot Eleven Cricket Club and Friends Cricket Club. The tournament was the Phase-I of Jammu Premier League (Tawi Cup 2012) and the aim was to select the best team to represent Kishtwar District.

The young guns of Kishtwar had put up an excellent show with each team fighting fiercely for the coveted trophy.  The tournament which was played on a knock out basis raked up lot of attention despite inclement weather.  All matches witnessed nail biting finishes and sterling performances from the players.

Living up to the reputation of fast paced format of 20-20 cricket, the tournament also had its share of upsets and surprises with the teams performing or otherwise on the given day preceding the finals.  Youth Sarkot Eleven Cricket Club and Friends Eleven Cricket Club reached the finals of the coveted tournament after playing some quality all round cricket. The final match generated tremendous interest with large number of spectators thronging the pristine Chogan ground and cheering for their favourite teams.  

The tournament was Won by Youth Sarkot Eleven Cricket Club.  The final ceremony was attended by various luminaries and Trophies and Cheques were given by Commander, Sector Rashtriya Rifles and      Mr Mohd Hussain Malik, DC Kishtwar.  Speaking on the sidelines of the occasion Commander,  Sector Rashtriya Rifles appreciated the team members for their glistering performance and team spirit.  He also praised the District Sports Officer Shri Subash Chand and members of the local organising body without whom the tournament would not have achieved the immense success and popularity.  The Commander, also wished the team that will represent Kishtwar District good luck and said that he was optimistic that the team will win the Jammu Premier League trophy.

Mr Sohail Captain of Youth Sarkot Eleven Cricket team said that such tournaments help in grooming the talent of Kishtwar and they expected many more such tournaments to take place.  He also stated that the teams had given their best and ensured that the spirit of game and sportsmanship remains supreme and undiluted.
