JAMMU PREMIER LEAGUE (TAWI CUP 2012)

KISHTWAR: In the series of Op Sadbhavana activities to win the hearts and minds of local people, a cricket tournament is being organised by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Chogan ground, Kishtwar with effect from    07 Mar 2012.  In a cricket frenzy nation like India as expected the tournament is raking up lot of attention.  This cricket tournament is the Phase-I of Jammu Premier League (Tawi Cup 2012).

The aim of this tournament is to identify the best team that can represent Kishtwar District.  Sixteen teams from various corners of Kishtwar District have registered for this tournament. The Inauguration ceremony was held on a grand scale attended by various luminaries of Kishtwar town. Commander   Sector Rashtriya Rifles declared the tournament open and also faced a ball from Mr Mohd Hussain Malik, DC Kishtwar as a symbolic gesture.  Commander Sector Rashtriya Rifles spoke about the importance of games and physical activity among the youth.

The build up to the tournament has been exciting with each team asserting their claim to the trophy.  First match between Puchal Eleven Club and Youth Kishtwar Club was an icing on the cake as they were an equally balanced and fiercely competitive sides. Winner of this tournament will take home Rs 25,000/- and a trophy while the runner up team will get Rs 15,000/- and a trophy.  In addition to this there are many individual prizes to be won.
 
Speaking on the sidelines of the occasion, the DC Mr Mohd Hussain Malik appreciated the efforts of the Army and complimented them for taking up such a constructive project to ensure harmony in the society. Mr Vikrant Chander, Captain of Puchal Eleven Club also spoke and said he and his team members are buoyant and eagerly looking forward to the tournament.  He further added that is for the first time that a selection committee will be intently watching them and deciding the future Kishtwar District team. To represent their district at the state level is indeed once in a life time opportunity and many probables are hopeful to even play for the country in the near future.

The tournament has been planned with full involvement and co-operation of District Sports Authority who will also play an important role in selecting the District Level Team for participating in the Jammu Premier League (Tawi Cup 2012).
