ARMY ORGANISES TAWI CUP-2012

UDHAMPUR: Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army is set to organise the  Jammu Premier League (JPL) after the resounding success of the KashmirPremier League (KPL) in the valley last year. The intra-district matches for Udhampur District will be played at Subhash StadiumUdhampur from 10-20 February 2012 on the T20 format between 16 teamsof the district. The first four teams will represent the district inthe Tawi Cup at Jammu in the month of April this year.

Mr Sukhdev Singh, the District Sports Officer, has expressed his
happiness at the event being organised for the promotion of the sport of cricket and for instilling sportsman spirit and teamwork in the youth of Udhampur District. He hopes that people will come out in large numbers to witness the exciting matches. Two matches will be played each day, at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, with the final matches planned on 17 February 2012.

This is in sync with the philosophy of using ‘Heart as a Weapon’ to
constructively engage the populace in general and channelize the energies of the ‘Youth’ in particular. The aim of this cricket tournament is to involve the youth and ‘enhance the existing cricketing standards’ thereby inculcating an ‘environment of sports culture’ amongst the local populace. This tournament would thereby be a stepping stone in fulfilling the ‘vision statement’ i.e., “Integration of Jammu and Kashmir Cricketing Talent into the National Cricket Mainstream”.

The Indian Army is dedicated to the people of the nation and hopes
that these sports activities will channelize the energies of today’s youth and galvanise them towards team and nation building ventures in the future- remarked a high ranking army officer when contacted. He also hoped that all agencies of the state and district, the Sport Authority, the Police Forces and various Sports Associations come together and make this event a huge success.
