REPUBLIC DAY 2012: NORTHERN COMMAND LEADS FROM THE FRONT

UDHAMPUR: The awards announced on occasion of the Republic Day 2012 once again saw the highest number of gallantry awards being conferred to the troops in Northern Command.

The Northern Command has been awarded one Ashok Chakra, three Kriti Chakras, six Shourya Chakras and a large number of other gallantry awards. These awards stand tribute  to the  many heroes , some of those who have made the supreme sacrifice in the true tradition and spirit of the Indian Army.

Amongst the awardees is Lt Navdeep Singh who has  posthumously been awarded the Ashoka Chakra . It may be recalled that the officer while participating in operations on 19/20 Aug 2011 in North Kashmir displayed inspiring leadership, indomitable spirit, conspicuous bravery of the highest order with utter disregard to his personal safety killed four foreign terrorists before succumbing to his injuries.
It is also a matter of honour that Lt Gen KT Parnaik, UYSM, YSM GOC-in-NC, Northern Command has been awarded the Param Vishist Sewa Medal, while Lt Gen SA Hasnain, AVSM, SM, VSM**, GOC, 15 Corps awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal.

The troops of Northern Command remain operationally committed to preserve the territorial integrity of the country and do so  while braving  the vagaries of hostile climate and terrain conditions.
