ARMY ORGANISES VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

NOWSHERA: Tithwal Brigade today organised an Inter Village Volleyball Championship at village Bhowani for the villagers of border area of Nowshera.  Youth from 25 villages participated in the Championship.

The championship was conducted for three days from 12 Dec 2011 onwards.   The Final match was played between Bhowani Kalsiyan and Vagla Kampla teams in which Bhowani Kalsiyan team won the championship.

The tournament was organised to instill the spirit of sportsmanship and to develop a sports culture amongst the youth.  The villagers had been provided with the sports kits, accessories for preparation for the championship well in advance. 

 “There are very limited sports facilities for the villagers in this border area.  Such a step by the Army will definitely boost the sports culture amongst the local population” said Jang Bahadur Singh, Sarpanch of village Bhowani.

Mohd Bashir, one of the players of Laroka team said “Army is doing good service for the area by conducting the volleyball championship.  We can now dream of participating in the district level matches”.

Brig Rajeev Sirohi, Commander, Tithwal Brigade gave away medals and trophies to the winner and runners up teams.  Apart from senior Army officers, Mr Shahid Iqbal, IAS, SDM Nowshera, Dr Kaushal Kumar Sharma, Addl SP, Nowshera, Mr Girdhari Lal Sharma, SDPO, Nowshera, Sarpanches and other prominent personalities of the participating villages attended the function.
